City of Melbourne Business Incubator Study Client NameCity of Melbourne Date2008 Project Description The City of Melbourne has made a substantial long-term commitment to the provision of support for the City’s economic, business and trade development. For more than a decade, the Business Development Fund (BDF) administered by Business Melbourne has provided a range of support initiatives to innovative businesses just getting off the ground and existing small- and medium-sized enterprises expanding their activities within the municipality and beyond.
In order to provide further benefits and satisfy some of the additional needs of new and emerging businesses in the City, Council would like to diversify and increase the substance of its support measures. The City of Melbourne commissioned RPA to investigate the feasibility of establishing a business support facility for emerging businesses. Our Role RPA provide a highly localised feasibility study that concentrated on Council’s needs, subordinating a sustained engagement with the general theory surrounding small business incubation worldwide to an approach that focused on the salient place- and situation-specific characteristics. The study focused on the demand and potential for small enterprise support facilities and services particularly as these issues relate to Melbourne—today. |
